Supporting airborne and high-speed unmanned systems in test ranges requires wireless networks engineered for extreme distance, velocity, and mobility—challenges that extend well beyond conventional 5G deployments.

This presentation outlines the capabilities needed to adapt O-CUDU architectures for 5G and FutureG test range operations. We will explore how to enable very large airspace cells and support high-mobility UEs by maximizing existing 3GPP mechanisms, including extended Cyclic Prefix, RACH formats, and extended window searches. The discussion will also introduce potential beyond-standard enhancements. Specifically, we will focus on addressing gNB-side Doppler compensation and deploying advanced mobility management. By building upon standardized techniques like conditional handover, such enhanced mechanisms can improve link reliability and seamless transitions in highly dynamic scenarios.

Additionally, the talk will highlight the structural overlap with Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) standards, demonstrating how NTN-driven advances can secure robust connectivity for dynamic range users.
